Design for recycling - sustainable design right from the start

Design for recycling is not just a buzzword at EPROPLAST, but a lived practice. We design our PET bottles so that they can be recycled as efficiently and to the highest possible quality after use - regardless of whether it is a standard model or a customer-specific design.

Because only packaging that is designed for recycling can become part of a functioning cycle. And this is exactly what will be important in the future - also with regard to the upcoming legal requirements of the PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation).

Our understanding of design - for functioning cycles

Our bottle development is based on the following principles:

  1. Monomaterial instead of a mix of materials: Our bottles are made entirely of PET - this enables pure recycling without the need for time-consuming separation.
  2. Labels and closures at a glance: We pay attention to recycling-friendly labels and advise on the selection of suitable materials.
  3. Colors with responsibility: Transparent PET is particularly easy to recycle - which is why we recommend it in terms of sustainability. We also offer colored variants on request, e.g. for greater product differentiation on the shelf.
  4. Suitable for rPET: Our bottles are designed so that they can be produced with a high proportion of post-consumer recyclate (PCR) - an important requirement for the future.
  5. Sorting-friendly design: Through targeted shaping, we ensure that our packaging can be easily recognized and correctly assigned in sorting systems.

Why design for recycling is essential today

The EU PPWR regulation places high demands on packaging: It must be recyclable and meet certain recyclate quotas from 2030. Only companies that address the recyclability of their packaging at an early stage will be able to produce in a legally compliant and sustainable manner in the long term.

With Design for Recycling, we at eproplast not only make a contribution to the circular economy, but also support our customers in acting in compliance with the law and in a way that conserves resources.

Our goal: Keeping PET in circulation

PET is one of the few plastics that can be reliably recycled on an industrial scale - especially if it is designed correctly from the outset. Together with our customers, we want to ensure that PET stays in the cycle: as safe, sustainable packaging that still meets tomorrow's standards.
